I am very much my father’s daughter. He was an artist, dreamer, world-traveller, and body surfer. Now he’s older, he’s turning sixty this year, fuck. I see it in his face, and it’s crazy to watch the parents you’ve known your whole existence grow older. He has the kindest blue eyes, my dad. Nowadays, after work he relaxes in his huge, beautiful backyard that he created and cares for almost every day. He’s hard working, hands-on, full of knowledge, compassion, and terrible jokes. We butted heads like crazy in my teenage years when our religious views began to differ, it was gnarly times to tell my two incredibly Catholic parents that I don’t believe in god. But of course, we’ve all grown and learned to put that behind us, or at least in a place we don’t talk about it. He encouraged me to skate and surf at my first thought of it - he even bought me my first skate shoes, a pair of Globes from Ski Market. I will always so fondly remember him bringing me to big, sloppy hurricane waves at Nantasket Beach for me to boogie board, him to body surf. He always had a boat to take the family out on the Atlantic. I am very much a child of the sea thanks to him. Just before I moved to California, I was working way too much and way too hard at a warehouse in my hometown and going no where fast with that. He always wants the best for me, constantly giving me his advice. He reminded me at that time, “You have a whole rest of your life to work. Life is meant to be enjoyed, you’re young!” So here I am. I had to up and leave where my roots are but I’m enjoying every single day of my life here in sunny Southern California. Surfing and skating every day and working in the skate industry, this is where I am meant to be at this point in my life. Thanks for everything, Dad, especially for always believing in me. Love you.
